AMACE Tablet is used in the treatment of refractory hypertension (difficult to treat hypertension).

AMACE Tablet may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

• Amlodipine Besylate belongs to a group of medicines known as calcium channel blockers. Amlodipine Besylate prevents the calcium from moving into the blood vessel wall thereby preventing tightening of blood vessel walls. This reduces the blood pressure and improves symptoms of chest pain.

• Enalapril belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE-inhibitors). Enalapril acts by suppressing the renin-angiotensin system (physiological system in our body which regulates blood pressure). Enalapril widens and relaxes the blood vessel walls and reduces the blood pressure.

AMACE Tablet act additively and relaxes the blood vessel wall which improves the blood flow, thereby reducing the blood pressure.

• The dosage of oral tablets of AMACE Tablet depends on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Take AMACE Tablet as prescribed by your doctor.
• You must swallow the tablet with water. Do not chew the tablet.
• AMACE Tablet can be taken before, during or after a meal.
• Take your daily dose at same time.
• Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.
• If you miss a dose of AMACE Tablet, please take it immediately once you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
• Amlodipine + Enalapril is not recommended for use in children and adolescent under 18 years of age.
• If you have taken an overdose of AMACE Tablet, please contact your doctor immediately. The only symptom of overdose of Amlodipine + Enalapril is hypotension (low blood pressure).

• Drugs which increase serum potassium levels

• Insulin and oral anti-diabetics
• Ketoconazole, Itraconazole
• Lithium
• Morphine
• NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)
• Procainamide
• Rifampicin, Erythromycin, Clarithromycin
• Ritonavir, Indinavir, Nelfinavir
• Salbutamol, Xylometazoline
• Simvastatin
• Johns wort
• Temsirolimus, Sirolimus, Everolimus
• Verapamil, Diltiazem

Most common side effects of AMACE Tablet. are:

• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Headache, fatigue
• Breathlessness, palpitation
• Swelling of ankles, feet, legs, hands or arms
• Flushing
• Diarrhoea or constipation

Please stop your tablets and contact your physician immediately if you have

• angioneurotic oedema (red, burning, itching areas on skin near eyes, lips, hands, feet and inside of throat, hoarseness of voice, difficulty in breathing);
• increase in serum creatinine levels, increase BUN (blood urea nitrogen), increase in serum potassium.

• Get up slowly after sitting or lying down as AMACE Tablet may cause dizziness and light-headedness.

You are advised not to take AMACE Tablet if

• it has passed the expiry date of the medicine printed on the pack.
• the foil or packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering or there is discoloration.

Tell your doctor if

• you are allergic to AMACE Tablet or to any ingredients of this medicine.
• you are taking any other drugs, OTC medications, herbal products or nutritional supplements.
• you are on low salt diet and are using potassium supplements.
• you have high levels of potassium in your blood.
• You have had angioedema.
• you have a condition involving the blood vessels in the brain.
• you have renal artery stenosis (narrowed blood vessel in kidney) or have had a kidney transplant.
• you have collagen vascular disease like SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus).
• you have narrowing of aorta (aortic stenosis) or heart valve (mitral stenosis).
• you have had myocardial infarction with heart failure.
• you have any pre-existing heart disease.
• you have liver or kidney disease.
• you have diabetes.
• you are under dialysis.
• you are planning a surgery or any procedure.
• you are pregnant or trying to conceive or are breastfeeding.

1. How should AMACE Tablet be stored?

AMACE Tablet should be stored between 15 to 30C. Keep the medicine away from sunlight and do not freeze the medicine. Keep the medicine out of reach from children.

2. Can I drive while taking AMACE Tablet?

AMACE Tablet may cause drowsiness, dizziness and headache in some individuals. Avoid driving if you are taking AMACE Tablet.

3. Should I follow any special dietary instructions while taking AMACE Tablet?

Do not take grapefruit or grapefruit juice while on AMACE Tablet. Apart from this, there are no dietary restrictions if you are taking AMACE Tablet.

4. Is AMACE Tablet addictive?

No, AMACE Tablet is not addictive. However, do not take it without consulting your doctor.
