What is ASTIN D?
- ASTIN D contains active ingredients called Atorvastatin and Cholecalciferol
Atorvastatin:
- Atorvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering agent which belongs to the group of drugs called statins or HMG CoA reductase inhibitors
- It decreases the low-density lipoprotein (bad cholesterol) and triglyceride in the blood, as well as increases the high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol)
- It helps in preventing the build-up of cholesterol in the arteries
- It also reduces blood flow to the brain, heart and other body parts
Cholecalciferol:
- Cholecalciferol is vitamin D3. It aids the body to absorb calcium

What ASTIN D is used for?
It is used,
- to reduce high cholesterol levels
- to prevents the risk of stroke and heart attack in individuals with diabetes and heart disorders
- for the treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency
Talk to your doctor before taking ASTIN D, if you:
- are allergic (hypersensitive) ASTIN D or any other contents of this medicine
- have liver or kidney disease
- have cardiovascular disorder
- have diabetes
- have hypothyroidism
- have electrolyte imbalance
- have had repeated or unexplained muscle aches or pains
- regularly drink a large amount of alcohol
- have severe respiratory failure
- have had a previous stroke with bleeding into the brain, or have small pockets of fluid in the brain from previous strokes
- have high blood calcium levels
- have high urine calcium levels
- have too much vitamin D in your body
- have any type of cancer of the bone
- have sarcoidosis (inflammation that produces lumps of cells in various organs in the body)
- have any type of cancer of the bone
Tell your doctor about any other medicine you are taking:
- ciclosporin, used to alter the way your immune system works
- erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, fluconazole, posaconazole, rifampin, fusidic acid used for antibiotics or antifungal medicines
- gemfibrozil, other fibrates, colestipol used to regulate lipid levels
- amlodipine diltiazem, used for angina or high blood pressure
- digoxin, verapamil, amiodarone used to regulate your heart rhythm
- ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, indinavir, darunavir, the combination of tipranavir/ritonavir, used in the treatment of HIV
- telaprevir, boceprevir, used in the treatment of hepatitis C
- ezetimibe (which lowers cholesterol), warfarin (which reduces blood clotting), oral contraceptives, stiripentol (an anti-convulsant for epilepsy), cimetidine (used for heartburn and peptic ulcers), phenazone (a painkiller), colchicines (used to treat gout), antacids (indigestion products containing aluminium or magnesium)
- other medications containing vitamin D or calcium
- digitoxin and digoxin, used to treat certain heart conditions
- thiazide diuretics (used in treatment of high blood pressure and oedema)
- tetracycline antibiotics
- disodium etidronate, used to treat osteoporosis
- estramustine (a medicine used in chemotherapy) and levothyroxine (used to treat thyroid deficiency)
- orlistat, used to treat obesity
- Always take this medicine as exactly your doctor told you
- Swallow the whole with a glass of water
- It can be taken at any time of day, with or without food
- Take this tablet daily at the same time
If you take more ASTIN D
- If you take too many ASTIN D contact your doctor immediately or go to the emergency department of the nearest hospital
If you forget to take ASTIN D
- If you happen to miss a dose of ASTIN D, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed dose
If you stop taking ASTIN D
- Do not stop this ASTIN D until your physician tells
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Atorvastatin:
- serious allergic reaction which causes swelling of face, tongue and throat that can cause great difficulty in breathing
- serious illness with severe peeling and swelling of the skin, blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes, genitals and fever
- skin rash with pink-red blotches especially on palms of hands or soles of feet which may blister
- muscle weakness, tenderness or pain
Atorvastatin:
- anorexia (loss of appetite), weight gain, decreases in blood sugar levels
- having nightmares, insomnia
- dizziness, numbness or tingling in the fingers and toes, reductions of sensation to pain or touch, change in sense of taste, loss of memory
- blurred vision
- ringing in the ears and/or head
- vomiting, belching, abdominal pain upper and lower, pancreatitis
- hepatitis (liver inflammation)
- rash, skin rash and itching, hives, hair loss
- neck pain, muscle fatigue
- fatigue, feeling unwell, weakness, chest pain, swelling especially in the ankles (oedema), raised temperature
- urine tests that are positive for white blood cells
Cholecalciferol:
- excess calcium levels in the blood or urine
Atorvastatin:
- visual disturbance
- unexpected bleeding or bruising
- cholestasis (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes)
- tendon injury
Cholecalciferol:
- constipation, flatulence, feeling sick (nausea), abdominal pain, diarrhoea, itching, skin rashes and hives (urticaria)
- serious allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
