Talk to your doctor before taking DONEP, if you:
- have stomach or duodenal ulcers
- have seizures (fits) or convulsions
- have a heart condition (irregular or very slow heart beat)
- have asthma or another long-term lung disease
- have liver problems or hepatitis
- have difficulty in passing urine or mild kidney disease
- have inherited intolerance of a sugar known as fructose
DONEP with food, drink and alcohol
- Food will not influence the effect of DONEP
- DONEP should not be taken with alcohol because alcohol may change its effect
Tell the doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Especially tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following types of medicines:
- other Alzheimers disease medicines, e.g. galantamine
- ibuprofen or diclofenac sodium used for treatment for arthritis
- anticholinergics medicines e.g. tolterodine
- antibiotics e.g. erythromycin, rifampicin
- ketoconazole - anti-fungal medicine
- fluoxetine - antidepressants
- phenytoin, carbemazepine - anticonvulsants
- quinidine, beta-blockers (propranolol and atenolol) used for heart problems
- diazepam, succinylcholine - muscle relaxants
- general anaesthetic
- medicines obtained without a prescription e.g. herbal remedies
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Take DONEP exactly as prescribed by the doctor
- Usually, you will start by taking 5ml every night. After one month, your doctor may tell you to take 10ml every night
- The maximum recommended dose is 10ml each night
For how long you should take DONEP
- Your doctor will advise you on how long you should continue to take your Oral Solution. You will need to see your doctor from time to time to review your treatment and assess your symptoms
If you take more DONEP
- If the patient takes too much DONEP at one time, call the doctor or go to the emergency room right away
If you forget to take DONEP
- If you miss giving the patient a dose of DONEP, just wait. Give only the next dose at the usual time. Do not give 2 doses at the same time. If DONEP is missed for 7 days or more, talk with the doctor before starting again
If you stop taking DONEP
- Do not stop taking DONEP unless your doctor advice to do so
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

- slow heartbeat and fainting
- more stomach acid
- worsening of lung problems in people with asthma or another lung disease
- seizures
- difficulty passing urine
- fainting
- heartburn or stomach pain
- nausea or vomiting, blood in the vomit, dark vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- bowel movements or stools that look like black tar
