What ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg is used for?
- It prevent your blood cells from sticking together and forming a blood clot
- It lower lipids known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when a low-fat diet and life style changes on their own have failed
Talk to your doctor before taking ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg, If you:
- are allergic to ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg or any of its ingredients
- are allergic to other salicylates or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- have had an asthma attack or swelling of some parts of the body e.g. face, lips, throat or tongue (angioedema) after taking salicylates or NSAIDs
- have or have ever had an ulcer in your stomach or small intestine or any other type of bleeding like a stroke
- have ever had the problem of your blood not clotting properly
- are suffering from gout
- have severe liver or kidney problems
- are taking a medicine called methotrexate (e.g. for cancer or rheumatoid arthritis) in doses higher than 15mg per week
- have high blood pressure
- have heavy menstrual periods
- are taking or have taken in the last 7 days a medicine called fusidic acid, (a medicine for bacterial infection) orally or by injection. The combination of fusidic acid and Atorvastatin can lead to serious muscle problems (rhabdomyolysis)
- have an under-active thyroid gland (hypothyroidism)
- have had repeated or unexplained muscle aches or pains, a personal history or family history of muscle problems
- have had previous muscular problems during treatment with other lipid-lowering medicines (e.g. other ‘-statin’ or ‘-fibrate’ medicines)
- regularly drink a large amount of alcohol
- Do not take ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg if you are pregnant, or if you are trying to become pregnant
- Do not take ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg if you are breast-feeding
- Ask your doctor for advice before taking any medicine
There are some medicines that may change the effect of Atorvastatin or their effect may be changed by Atorvastatin.
- Thinning of the blood/prevention of clots (e.g. warfarin, heparin, phenindione and clopidogrel)
- Organ rejection after transplantation (e.g. ciclosporin, tacrolimus)
- High blood pressure (e.g. diuretics and ACE-inhibitors)
- Regulation of the heart beat (digoxin)
- Manic-depressive illness (lithium)
- Pain and inflammation (e.g. anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen, or steroids)
- Gout (e.g. probenecid)
- Epilepsy (valproate, phenytoin)
- Glaucoma (acetazolamide)
- Cancer or rheumatoid arthritis (e.g. methoxtrexate)
- Diabetes (e.g. glibenclamide)
- Depression (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as sertraline or paroxetine)
- Use as hormone replacement therapy when the adrenal glands or pituitary gland have been destroyed or removed, or to treat inflammation, including rheumatic diseases and inflammation of the intestines (corticosteroids)
- Iron salts (for treatment of iron deficiency anaemia), carbonates (treatment of peptic ulcer and reflux), Alkali hydroxides (antacids):
- Certain antibiotics or antifungal medicines, e.g. erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, fluconazole, posaconazole, rifampin, fusidic acid
- Other medicines to regulate lipid levels, e.g. gemfibrozil, other fibrates, colestipol
- Some calcium channel blockers used for angina or high blood pressure, e.g. amlodipine, diltiazem
- Medicines used in the treatment of HIV e.g. ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, indinavir, darunavir, the combination of tipranavir/ritonavir etc.
- Some medicines used in the treatment of hepatitis C e.g. telaprevir
- Warfarin (which reduces blood clotting)
- Oral contraceptives
- Stiripentol (an anti-convulsant for epilepsy)
- Cimetidine (used for heartburn and peptic ulcers)
- Phenazone (a painkiller)
- Colchicine’s (used to treat gout)
- Antacids (indigestion products containing aluminum or magnesium)
- ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg should be swallowed whole with a drink of water, and can be taken at any time of day, with or without food
- Try to take your medicine at the same time every day
If you take more ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg
- If you accidentally take too much of this medicine, you should tell your doctor at once or contact immediately the nearest casualty department
If you forget to take ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg
- If you miss a dose, wait until it is time for your next dose, then go on as normal. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg
- Do not stop taking ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg without first consulting your doctor
Like all medicines, ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Aspirin
- sudden wheezing, swelling of your lips, face or body, rash, fainting or difficulties swallowing (severe allergic reaction)
- reddening of the skin with blisters or peeling and may be associated with a high fever and joint pains. This could be erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome or Lyell’s syndrome
- unusual bleeding, such as coughing up blood, blood in your vomit or urine, or black stools
Atorvastatin
- serious allergic reaction which causes swelling of face, tongue and throat that can cause great difficulty in breathing
- serious illness with severe peeling and swelling of the skin, blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes, genitals and fever. Skin rash with pink-red blotches especially on palms of hands or soles of feet which may blister
- muscle weakness, tenderness or pain and particularly, if at the same time, you feel unwell or have a high temperature it may be caused by an abnormal muscle breakdown. The abnormal muscle breakdown does not always go away, even after you have stopped taking atorvastatin it can be life-threatening and lead to kidney problems

- indigestion
- increased tendency for bleeding
Atorvastatin
- inflammation of the nasal passages, pain in the throat, nose bleed
- increases in blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes continue careful monitoring of your blood sugar levels), increase in blood creatine kinase
- nausea, constipation, wind, indigestion, diarrhoea
- Do not stop taking ECOSPRIN AV 75/20mg without first consulting your doctor
- joint pain, muscle pain, back pain and headache
- blood test results that show your liver function can become abnormal
Aspirin
- hives
- runny noses
- breathing difficulty
Atorvastatin
- anorexia (loss of appetite), weight gain, decreases in blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes you should continue careful monitoring of your blood sugar levels)
- having nightmares, insomnia
- dizziness, numbness or tingling in the fingers and toes, reductions of sensation to pain or touch, change in sense of taste, loss of memory
- blurred vision
- ringing in the ears and/or head
- vomiting, belching, abdominal pain upper and lower, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pa
