What is GLUCOBAY M 25MG?
- GLUCOBAY M 25MG contains combination of drugs called Acarbose and Metformin hydrochloride
- It works by slowing down the digestion of carbohydrates (complex sugars) in your food into simpler sugars and therefore reduces high blood sugar levels which can occur after each meal

Talk to your doctor before taking GLUCOBAY M 25MG, If you
- are allergic to metformin hydrochloride, acarbose or any of the ingredient in GLUCOBAY M 25MG
- have severely reduced kidney, liver problems, heart problems or breathing problems
- have uncontrolled diabetes
- have dehydration as it may lead to kidney problems, which can put you at risk for lactic acidosis.
- have a severe infection
- have drink a lot of alcohol
- need to have an examination such as X-ray or scan involving the injection of contrast medicine that contain iodine into your bloodstream
- are suffering from inflammation or ulceration of the bowel e.g. ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease
- have or are susceptible to an obstruction in your intestines (gut)
- have trouble digesting or absorbing food properly due to a problem with your gut
- have a large hernia or any other condition where increased gas in your gut may make your condition worse
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. It is especially important to mention the following
- Diuretics medicines which increase urine production
- Ibuprofen and celecoxib to treat pain and inflammation
- Perindopril, valsartan medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure
- Salbutamol or terbutaline used to treat asthma
- Corticosteroids used to treat a variety of conditions, such as severe inflammation of the skin or in asthma
- Insulin or certain medicines (e.g. Glibenclamide or chlorpropamide) to control your blood sugar
- Charcoal medicines known as intestinal adsorbents
- Amylase medicines to aid digestion containing digestive enzymes
- Neomycin used as an antibiotic
- Cholestyramine used for the treatment of high cholesterol
- Digoxin used for the treatment of heart failure
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Do not crush or chew the tablets
- Swallow each tablet with a glass of water
If you take more GLUCOBAY M 25MG
- If you have taken more GLUCOBAY M 25MG tablets that you should have to talk to your doctor straight away
If you forget to take GLUCOBAY M 25MG
- Take it as soon as possible
- Do not take double dose to make up for the one you missed
If you stop taking GLUCOBAY M 25MG
- Do not stop taking GLUCOBAY M 25MG unless your doctor advised you to do so
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Metformin hydrochloride:
- lactic acidosis
Acarbose:
- swelling of the lips, face and tongue, difficulty in breathing, feeling faint, rash or itching (affecting the whole body)
- unusual bruising, nosebleeds or bleeding gum
- your skin or eyes start turning yellow or you have severe stomach ache
Metformin hydrochloride:
- digestive problems, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, bellyache (abdominal pain) and loss of appetite
- changes in taste
Acarbose:
- diarrhoea
- stomach pain
- flatulence
Metformin hydrochloride:
- skin reactions such as redness of the skin (erythema), itching or an itchy rash (urticaria)
- low vitamin B12 levels in the blood
- abnormalities in liver function tests or hepatitis (inflammation of the liver; this may cause tiredness, loss of appetite, weight loss, with or without yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes)
