WHAT IS VALKEM?
VALKEM contains Divalproex which belongs to a group of medicines called anti-epileptics.
CONSUMER MEDICINE INFORMATION:
THERAPEUTIC USES:
What VALKEM is used for? It is used alone or with other medicines to treat,
- complex partial seizures in adults and children 10 years of age and older.
- simple and complex absence seizures, with or without other seizure types
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, herbal supplements and medicines that you take for a short period of time
If you take VALKEM during pregnancy for any medical condition, your child is at risk for having a lower IQ There may be other medicines to treat your condition that have a lower chance of birth defects.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
- Take the medicine exactly as your healthcare provider tells you.
- Your healthcare provider may change your dose.
- Swallow this medicine whole.
- Do not crush or chew or divide it.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Like all medicines, the medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
SERIOUS:
- liver damage that can cause death.
- nausea or vomiting that does not go away.
- abdominal discomfort.
- dark urine.
- swelling of your face.
- yellowing of your skin or eyes.
- suicidal thoughts.
- worse depression or anxiety.
- panic attacks.
- trouble sleeping (insomnia).
- allergic reactions like fever, skin rash, hives, sores in your mouth, blistering and peeling of your skin.
- drowsiness or sleepiness in the elderly.
- bleeding problems: red or purple spots on your skin, bruising, pain and swelling into your joints due to bleeding or bleeding from your mouth or nose.
- high ammonia levels in your blood: feeling tired, vomiting, changes in mental status.
- low body temperature (hypothermia): drop in your body temperature to less than 95F, feeling tired, confusion, coma.
COMMON:
- nausea
- headache.
- sleepiness.
- vomiting.
- weakness.
- dizziness.
- stomach pain.
- blurry vision.
- weight gain.
- hair loss.
- loss of appetite.
- problems with walking or coordination.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS:
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR:
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
- are allergic to divalproex sodium.
- have a genetic problem call a urea cycle disorder.
- drink alcohol.
- have liver problems.
- have or have had depression, mood problems, or suicidal thoughts or behavior.
- have any other medical conditions.
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING:
- If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breast feeding consult your doctor before taking this medicine VALKEM can pass into breast milk and may harm your unborn baby.
CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS:
- VALKEM is not recommended for the children aged below 10 years
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES:
- VALKEM can slow your thinking and motor skills.
- Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how VALKEM affects you.
STORAGE:
- Store at room temperature (15-25C).
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date.

Q1.If I take more VALKEM? If you take too much VALKEM, call your healthcare provider immediately.
Q2.If I forget to take VALKEM? If you miss a dose, just skip that dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
Q3.If I stop taking VALKEM? Do not stop taking VALKEM without first talking to your healthcare provider.
